"Lets Talk Zola"

In partnership with West Ham United Learning Zone, we are running an Italian language outreach programme. The classes are taught by Vivere l'italiano teachers supported by WHULC mentors, helping pupils in primary schools gain the skills needed to support language acquisition. The lessons are themed around football and West Ham United.

The programme is part of the Playing for Success initiaive, a partnership between the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), local authorities and a broad range of sports. The focus of the programme is to improve standards in literacy, numeracy and ICT and to build key skills.
We achieved impressive feedback and attendance, thanks to our multimedia and interactive language class sessions which are reinforced with mini football matches and specific Italian sport-related games (for example calcio alla tedesca o scalare), warm-up exercises and kinesthetical games played together with, and instructed in Italian by, the Vivere l'italiano teachers.
More than 100 pupils, in the last two years of their primary school (age 9 to 11) in the East London area, have participated so far.
